pronation

“Hey Ed, I’ve been told I have pronated feet. What exactly is that and do I need to be concerned, thanks, K.B.”

Hi K.B. if you look at the picture, you can get an idea what a pronated foot looks like. First of all, pronation is not the root of all evil in the world. It is normal to pronate, it’s the OVER pronation that we want to limit as this can cause issues. If you do over pronate, an orthotic can help, but the bigger issue is WHY you are over pronating in the first place. Often the problem lies far, far, away in the glutes. Weakness in the glut is the first thing I check for. If you have glut weakness and you wear orthotics, be prepared for the possibility of knee pain. The knee pain usually starts slowly and it’s the “I didn’t even do anything to it” variety. The reason is the increased rotational forces placed on the knee. If left unchecked, hello meniscal injury. Test your glut strength and let me know,

Good luck,
